Every message includes the footer “Reply STOP to opt out. Msg+Data Rates May Apply.” Note that you will not be notified if a patient replies STOP.

Keys to a successful text campaign

1. Get express permission in writing.

Keep a signed consent form in your pharmacy records. Then, go to the Patient Profile and change Communication Preferences for SMS to green.

2. Document verbal permission in patient records.

If written permission is not possible, verbally ask for permission to send communications AND record patient’s response in the Patient Profile’s “Add Note” field.

3. Honor “opt out” requests immediately.

A patient may tell you in-person or by phone that he or she no longer wishes to receive text messages. Go to the Patient Profile in your Patient Engagement Center and change Communication Preferences for SMS to red.
